Multifunction Printer Document Feeder: Worn exit roller | Auckland
Pattern to record: An original reaches the end of scanning but stalls, wrinkles or remains partly inside the ADF exit. Distinguish this original from a separately printed copy.
Locate the feed stage
The document feeder moves originals past the scanner; it is separate from the printer’s paper tray. Note whether single-sided or duplex scanning fails, and check originals for staples or damaged edges. One possible explanation is that the final roller cannot grip or release media consistently.
Before inspecting the mechanism
Turn off and disconnect the printer before hands-on ADF checks. Remove staples from test originals and keep fingers out of roller pinch points and drive gears. Follow the document-feeder access instructions rather than opening the separate print engine.
Feed-path checks
- With power isolated, inspect the ADF pickup, separation and sensing path using the model’s maintenance procedure.
- A technician should check the original-document exit rollers after excluding an upstream obstruction; mechanical checks must not involve fingers near powered rollers.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, replace the worn roller or bushing assembly. After clearing or repairing the fault and refitting access covers, verification should cover single and multi-page scans, both sides if supported, alignment and scan completeness.
