Multifunction Printer Document Feeder: Foreign object in paper path | Auckland
Pattern to record: The leading edge stops abruptly at a repeatable location.
Locate the feed stage
The document feeder moves originals past the scanner; it is separate from the printer’s paper tray. Note whether single-sided or duplex scanning fails, and check originals for staples or damaged edges. One possible explanation is that a clip, label fragment or torn sheet blocks normal travel.
Before inspecting the mechanism
Turn off and disconnect the printer before cleaning or reaching into the ADF mechanism. Use the specified ADF access cover; do not pull an original hard through closed rollers, the separation pad or sensor flags. Keep fingers out of drive gears.
Feed-path checks
- With power isolated, inspect and clean only the pickup rollers and separation surfaces identified in the model’s ADF instructions.
- Trace the original-document route through permitted access covers without sharp tools. Let a technician handle an obstruction beyond those covers.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, remove the object and repair any bent guide or sensor. After clearing or repairing the fault and refitting access covers, verification should cover single and multi-page scans, both sides if supported, alignment and scan completeness.
