Desktop Label Printer Media Path: Feed clutch fault | Auckland
Pattern to record: Pickup timing is inconsistent despite sound rollers.
Locate the feed stage
Labels must match the printer’s gap, black-mark or continuous-media sensing mode. Record stock width, liner and roll orientation before calibration; label adhesive can contaminate the platen and sensor path. The drive coupling engages late, slips or remains engaged; inspect the model’s drive layout because not every roll printer uses a separate feed clutch.
Feed-path checks
- Confirm label type and calibration, then inspect guides, platen and sensors.
- Observe drive timing and inspect the clutch and its control signal.
Before inspecting the mechanism
Adhesive residue should be removed with the printer powered off. Oiling a dry clutch surface can cause permanent slipping.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, service or replace the confirmed clutch assembly. Verification should cover single labels, batch labels, gap detection, calibration and clean exit.
