Convertible Laptop 360-Degree Hinge: Hinge alignment error | Auckland
Pattern to record: The lid is square when open but shifted or rubbing when closed.
Locate the moving or damaged part
A convertible hinge has a specified rotation range and cable route for laptop, tent and tablet positions. Stop at the first abnormal resistance rather than forcing a full rotation to demonstrate the fault. One possible explanation is that the left and right sides were tightened in conflicting positions.
Support the assembly
Do not force a convertible hinge past a tight point because bonded display damage is costly. Forcing the lid shut can crack the panel edge.
Mechanical inspection
- Test movement only within the safe range, inspect rotation stops and compare sensor behaviour with mechanical alignment.
- Loosen only with full support, establish neutral alignment and inspect for pre-existing deformation.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, realign the assembly in the correct sequence and replace distorted parts. Verification should cover all supported positions, mode sensing, touch, display, cable clearance and sleep.
