Convertible Laptop 360-Degree Hinge: Incorrect replacement hinge | Auckland
Pattern to record: The lid closes poorly or cables no longer follow their designed path.
Locate the moving or damaged part
A convertible hinge has a specified rotation range and cable route for laptop, tent and tablet positions. Stop at the first abnormal resistance rather than forcing a full rotation to demonstrate the fault. One possible explanation is that a hinge with the wrong torque, geometry or bracket holes has been installed.
Support the assembly
Do not force a convertible hinge past a tight point because bonded display damage is costly. Continued use can damage an otherwise good lid and base.
Mechanical inspection
- Test movement only within the safe range, inspect rotation stops and compare sensor behaviour with mechanical alignment.
- Compare part numbers, arm shape, rotation limits and torque with the original specification.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, install the exact compatible hinge and undo any forced routing changes. Verification should cover all supported positions, mode sensing, touch, display, cable clearance and sleep.
