Chromebook Hinge Assembly: Missing hinge spacer | Auckland
Pattern to record: The hinge drags on the casing or the lid is offset after reassembly.
Locate the moving or damaged part
Separate the Chromebook’s hinge wear from damage to the surrounding plastic posts. Record whether the camera, Wi-Fi or display also changes with lid angle, because cables may be caught in the same damaged area. One possible explanation is that a washer, sleeve or designed gap is absent after earlier work.
Support the assembly
Continued classroom use with a loose hinge can tear antennas or the display cable. Improvised washers can interfere with cables or change screw depth.
Mechanical inspection
- Inspect fasteners, posts and cable channels while the battery is disconnected.
- Compare the assembly with the model's parts layout and the opposite side.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, fit the correct spacer and restore the intended stack order. Verification should cover full travel, closed fit, Wi-Fi, camera, display and repeated gentle cycles.
