Chromebook Hinge Assembly: Hinge-area cable abrasion | Auckland
Pattern to record: Screen, camera or wireless behaviour changes at repeatable lid angles.
Locate the moving or damaged part
Separate the Chromebook’s hinge wear from damage to the surrounding plastic posts. Record whether the camera, Wi-Fi or display also changes with lid angle, because cables may be caught in the same damaged area. One possible explanation is that the moving hinge or sharp housing edge has worn through cable insulation.
Support the assembly
Continued classroom use with a loose hinge can tear antennas or the display cable. Exposed conductors can short panel power into data lines.
Mechanical inspection
- Inspect fasteners, posts and cable channels while the battery is disconnected.
- Disconnect power and inspect the complete flexing section and its protective sleeve.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, replace the damaged cable and correct routing or missing protection. Verification should cover full travel, closed fit, Wi-Fi, camera, display and repeated gentle cycles.
