Workstation Power Supply: Missing standby rail | Auckland
Pattern to record: No board standby light or start response appears despite valid mains input.
Identify the supply and load
A workstation may have proprietary power connectors, multiple processors or high-current expansion cards. Record the installed configuration and OEM supply specification rather than assuming an ordinary ATX replacement is suitable. One possible explanation is that the supply does not provide the always-on voltage needed for the power button logic.
Mains and connector safety
Proprietary workstation connectors must not be assumed to follow ATX wiring. Bridging start pins cannot replace a missing standby rail.
Workshop checks
- Check event indicators, connector mapping and rail stability with the installed configuration documented.
- Measure the standby output under a safe known load.
Repair and loaded verification
If the checks support this cause, replace the failed supply or repair it only with qualified mains-safety procedures. Verification should cover cold start, CPU and GPU load, storage activity, restart and extended work.
