USB Ethernet Adapter: Heat-sensitive Ethernet controller | Auckland
Pattern to record: Link is normal from cold and drops during sustained transfer.
Separate the adapter from the network
The adapter depends on two connections: USB to the computer and Ethernet to the switch. Note which one disappears during the fault and test the adapter directly before adding a hub or dock. One possible explanation is that the controller or regulator becomes unstable as temperature rises.
Link and configuration checks
- Compare USB ports, cable, network load and driver behaviour on another computer.
- Log temperature and traffic while comparing external airflow and supply stability.
Before internal work
Stop using an adapter that overheats or has a damaged cable. Freezing spray and uncontrolled heating can damage nearby parts.
Verify the network path
If the checks support this cause, repair the heat-sensitive controller, regulator or cooling condition. Verification should cover supported link speed, sustained transfer, sleep, reconnect and another host.
