Thermal Receipt Printer Feed System: Cracked feed gear | Auckland
Pattern to record: Clicking accompanies a jam at the same point.
Locate the feed stage
A typical receipt printer feeds a continuous roll with a platen rather than separating stacked sheets. Check roll width, winding direction, cover closure and cutter clearance against the model’s media instructions. One possible explanation is that a split gear loses tooth alignment when torque rises.
Feed-path checks
- Verify roll width and orientation, inspect platen pressure, sensors and cutter clearance.
- Rotate the mechanism by hand with power isolated and inspect the entire gear.
Before inspecting the mechanism
The thermal head may be hot and the cutter can move automatically. Continuing to print can distribute broken teeth through the path.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, replace the damaged gear and check the shaft and adjacent load. Verification should cover short and long receipts, repeated cuts, cover latch and low-paper behaviour.
For an assessment of your receipt printer, contact AEPC in Burswood or call 027 908 8880. Provide the model and the conditions that reproduce this problem. Workshop visits are by appointment.
