Test a Multipoint Headset’s Audio Priority Before a Real Call

by AEPC / AKL East PC 27 Sep 2026

Multipoint means a headset can maintain connections to more than one host. It does not necessarily mean both hosts will play together, or that every model chooses the same source when they become active at once.

Map the actual connections

Write down which computer or phone is connected through a USB receiver and which uses direct Bluetooth. Confirm the exact headset model, including words such as Vibe or Wireless that may distinguish different products.

Logitech's Zone Vibe Wireless documentation says its receiver connection takes priority over direct Bluetooth. Its separate Zone Wireless guide describes Bluetooth taking priority over the dongle for the documented audio-switching scenario. These examples show why copying a rule from a similar product name is unreliable.

Read your model's rules for media, calls and simultaneous connections. A list of remembered pairings is not the same as the number of hosts that can be active at once. Keep unrelated nearby paired devices inactive during the first test where practical.

Rehearse the transition

Play harmless audio on the computer, then start and stop audio on the phone. Observe which source you hear and what action returns playback to the computer. Use a moderate listening volume and avoid a real customer conversation as the test material.

Next use a supported test-call feature or arrange a brief test with a willing participant. Confirm both the microphone and speaker route after switching. The headset producing sound does not prove that the meeting application is using its microphone.

If you need uninterrupted computer audio for an important session, temporarily disconnect the unused host through its normal controls rather than deleting every pairing. Reconnect it afterwards and verify the intended arrangement.

Keep a simple note of the sequence that worked for the actual model. When behaviour differs from the guide, record the active hosts, connection methods and applications before considering a reset. That evidence is much more useful than describing the headset as randomly changing sound.
