Map Easy-Switch Channels Before Pairing a Keyboard to Another Computer
A multi-device keyboard can be correctly paired and still type into the wrong computer. Treat its channel buttons as a small connection map, especially when a laptop, desktop and tablet sit within reach of one another.
Record the existing map
Before adding another device, identify which channels already work. Open a harmless blank text document on each computer and use a short channel press to check where a simple test word appears. Do not test with passwords, chat messages or shortcuts that could trigger an action.
Logitech's MX Keys S instructions describe up to three paired computers. Holding the selected Easy-Switch key for three seconds enters discovery mode, while a short press changes between paired channels. Those are different actions; holding a familiar channel button should not be your first response to an unexpected destination.
Choose the channel intended for the new computer and use the model's documented pairing route, such as Bluetooth or a compatible Bolt receiver. Complete the pairing on the intended computer, checking its displayed device identity before accepting it.
Verify switching in both directions
Type a harmless word on the newly paired computer. Switch back to the original channel with a short press and confirm that the original computer still receives input. Repeat for any other channel you rely on.
If a mouse also has channel buttons, map it separately. The mouse and keyboard do not necessarily switch together simply because both have numbered buttons. Automatic following requires a separately supported and configured feature.
Write down a simple map such as channel one for the desk computer and channel two for the travel laptop. Keep the note near the workstation without including passwords or other account details.
Before a sensitive task, verify the active destination with a harmless input or visible focus check. This is particularly useful after waking devices or returning from another desk. The goal is predictable control of each computer, rather than repeatedly repairing Bluetooth connections that were already working.
