MacBook Air Apple-Silicon Power Path: Power-button signal fault | Auckland
Pattern to record: Automatic power-on may work while pressing the power control does not.
Use the correct Mac power design
Use the exact Apple-silicon MacBook Air model to identify its charging ports and supported adapter. A black display alone does not prove the Mac is unpowered; check for other startup signs before pursuing the input circuit. One possible explanation is that the keyboard, top-case or button line is not delivering a valid start request.
Power and data precautions
Mac batteries and logic boards must be isolated with model-appropriate procedures. Shorting board points is unsafe and can damage adjacent circuits.
Model-specific checks
- Verify the correct charger, inspect all ports and separate display absence from true no-power behaviour.
- Compare alternative supported startup triggers and trace the button signal with power isolated.
Repair and startup verification
If the checks support this cause, repair the button, top-case connection or signal path confirmed by testing. Verification should cover cold start, charging on each supported port, battery operation, sleep, wake and restart.
