Laser Printer Paper Feed System: Foreign object in paper path | Auckland

by AEPC / AKL East PC 12 Oct 2026

Pattern to record: The leading edge stops abruptly at a repeatable location.

Locate the feed stage

Record the tray and the position of the sheet’s leading edge when it stops. Pickup, separation, duplex return and fuser exit are different stages; a jam message alone does not identify which roller failed. One possible explanation is that a clip, label fragment or torn sheet blocks normal travel.

Feed-path checks

  1. Note the leading edge position, inspect sensors and rollers and compare each tray.
  2. Follow the sheet route and inspect hidden turns without sharp tools.

Before inspecting the mechanism

Fuser areas can remain hot long after printing stops. Pulling hard can tear paper around a sensor or fuser.

Correct the confirmed cause

If the checks support this cause, remove the object and repair any bent guide or sensor. Verification should cover single and multi-page jobs, every tray, duplex if fitted, different paper weights and exit.

For an assessment of your laser printer, contact AEPC in Burswood or call 027 908 8880. Provide the model and the conditions that reproduce this problem. Workshop visits are by appointment.
