Laptop Ethernet Interface: Heat-sensitive Ethernet controller | Auckland
Pattern to record: Link is normal from cold and drops during sustained transfer.
Separate the adapter from the network
Distinguish a built-in laptop Ethernet port from a USB adapter or dock. Record which adapter appears in the operating system and whether physical link remains up when network access fails. One possible explanation is that the controller or regulator becomes unstable as temperature rises.
Link and configuration checks
- Compare cable, switch port, firmware detection and sustained transfer before opening the computer.
- Log temperature and traffic while comparing external airflow and supply stability.
Before internal work
Disconnect damaged network cables and docks before internal work. Freezing spray and uncontrolled heating can damage nearby parts.
Verify the network path
If the checks support this cause, repair the heat-sensitive controller, regulator or cooling condition. Verification should cover link at supported speed, local transfer, internet access, sleep and undocking.
