Inkjet Printer Paper Feed System: Cracked feed gear | Auckland
Pattern to record: Clicking accompanies a jam at the same point.
Locate the feed stage
Compare plain paper with the specific photo or speciality media supported by the inkjet. Note whether skew begins at pickup or only under the carriage, and keep fingers clear of the moving printhead. One possible explanation is that a split gear loses tooth alignment when torque rises.
Feed-path checks
- Inspect pickup surfaces, guides and encoder-related movement using clean supported media.
- Rotate the mechanism by hand with power isolated and inspect the entire gear.
Before inspecting the mechanism
Keep fingers clear of powered carriage and feed mechanisms. Continuing to print can distribute broken teeth through the path.
Correct the confirmed cause
If the checks support this cause, replace the damaged gear and check the shaft and adjacent load. Verification should cover plain paper, photo media if supported, alignment, multi-page feed and exit.
