Convertible Laptop 360-Degree Hinge: Seized hinge pivot | Auckland
Pattern to record: The lid needs excessive force and the casing flexes before the pivot moves.
Locate the moving or damaged part
A convertible hinge has a specified rotation range and cable route for laptop, tent and tablet positions. Stop at the first abnormal resistance rather than forcing a full rotation to demonstrate the fault. One possible explanation is that lubrication or internal bearing surfaces have deteriorated and hinge torque rises sharply.
Support the assembly
Do not force a convertible hinge past a tight point because bonded display damage is costly. Forcing the hinge can crack the LCD or tear mounting posts.
Mechanical inspection
- Test movement only within the safe range, inspect rotation stops and compare sensor behaviour with mechanical alignment.
- Measure movement resistance and isolate the hinge from damaged plastics where safe.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, replace or correctly service the seized hinge and repair stressed mounts. Verification should cover all supported positions, mode sensing, touch, display, cable clearance and sleep.
