Chromebook Hinge Assembly: Hinge alignment error | Auckland
Pattern to record: The lid is square when open but shifted or rubbing when closed.
Locate the moving or damaged part
Separate the Chromebook’s hinge wear from damage to the surrounding plastic posts. Record whether the camera, Wi-Fi or display also changes with lid angle, because cables may be caught in the same damaged area. One possible explanation is that the left and right sides were tightened in conflicting positions.
Support the assembly
Continued classroom use with a loose hinge can tear antennas or the display cable. Forcing the lid shut can crack the panel edge.
Mechanical inspection
- Inspect fasteners, posts and cable channels while the battery is disconnected.
- Loosen only with full support, establish neutral alignment and inspect for pre-existing deformation.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, realign the assembly in the correct sequence and replace distorted parts. Verification should cover full travel, closed fit, Wi-Fi, camera, display and repeated gentle cycles.
