Chromebook Hinge Assembly: Broken mounting post | Auckland
Pattern to record: The case opens near the hinge even though the pivot still moves.
Locate the moving or damaged part
Separate the Chromebook’s hinge wear from damage to the surrounding plastic posts. Record whether the camera, Wi-Fi or display also changes with lid angle, because cables may be caught in the same damaged area. One possible explanation is that the threaded plastic or metal anchor has separated from the housing.
Support the assembly
Continued classroom use with a loose hinge can tear antennas or the display cable. Using longer screws can puncture the display, battery or board.
Mechanical inspection
- Inspect fasteners, posts and cable channels while the battery is disconnected.
- Open the housing with the lid supported and map every separated anchor.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, rebuild the structural mounting area or replace the affected housing part. Verification should cover full travel, closed fit, Wi-Fi, camera, display and repeated gentle cycles.
