All-in-One Display Tilt Hinge: Hinge-area cable abrasion | Auckland
Pattern to record: A cable routed near the stand changes behaviour at repeatable tilt angles.
Locate the moving or damaged part
The stand supports the entire all-in-one, not just a laptop lid. Unplug and support the unit before inspecting the stand, mounting plate or tilt pivot; laptop lid switches and battery-housing assumptions do not apply. The moving hinge or sharp housing edge has worn through cable insulation; check the actual cable route because some stand pivots carry no internal display cable.
Support the assembly
The complete unit is heavy and must be supported before hinge fasteners are released. Exposed conductors can short panel power into data lines.
Mechanical inspection
- Remove external load, inspect stand pivots and mounting plates and confirm the display housing is not cracking.
- Disconnect power and inspect the complete flexing section and its protective sleeve.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, replace the damaged cable and correct routing or missing protection. Verification should cover tilt range, stand stability, housing fit, cable clearance and vibration resistance.
